True Friend
Once upon a time, in a beautiful forest there were two elephants that different in gender sitting near the clean river. The male elephant name Si Joko while the female elephant name Si Juki. They were good friends. They always will be together. If we see Si Joko, we will see Si Juki too.
“Juki, do you love me?” asked Si Joko.
“Why you ask me that question? You know that I will always love you as my best friends,” said Si Juki. She felt quite strange with that question.
“I felt so happy to hear that. Who know, my life is only short,” said Si Joko in a soft voice.
Si Juki felt angry to hear that. Recently, Si Joko always talked the same thing. Die, die,die. She felt so scared and worried if the Si Joko kicked the bucket. If Si Jokodied, she did not have anyone to be her friend. She will be alone. She always prayed to God to longer their life.
“I don’t want to hear that anymore. You can’t leave me alone,” said Si Juki in an angry voice.
Si Joko just kept quiet. Then, he wanted to find food for them. Si Juki also followed him. They already promised that anywhere they go,they will go together. They walked together into the forest to find the food. They managed to find a lot of food such as bananas, mangosteens and also papayas. They brought the fruits to their home.
They lived in a big and wonderful cave. They always cleaned the cave so that it will always look clean. Everyday, they will clean the place together by swept the floor and washed it with the water. They will use their trunk to spray the water.
At night, after dinner, both of them sat near the cave’s door while looking at the sky. The stars on the sky were shining brightly at that night. The soft evening breeze caressed their face. They felt so calm and fresh at that night. Si Juki looked that Si Joko just pensive and she felt quite weird.
“Why you just keep quiet? Usually, you will always talk with me until I get bore,” said Si Juki.
“I don’t know why. I felt so tired. I think I will get sick,” said Si Joko weakly.
“What? You must go inside now. Please, sleep early. Let go inside and sleep,” beg Si Juki.
Si Juki felt anxious with Si Joko’s health and she slept near him. The next morning, Si Juki woke up from sleep. Si Joko still slept near him. She felt so strange as normally, Si Joko will wake up before her. She tried to wake up Si Joko. Si Joko woke up but he just opened his eyes. He could not stand as he was so weak.
“My dear, I can’t wake up. I felt so weak,” said Si Joko.
It is ok. I will take care of you. You just rest and sleep here. I will find the food for us alone. You don’t have to worry about me,” said Si Juki.
Si Juki walked alone to find the food for them. She was willing to do anything for her friend. Everyday, she will find the food alone for them. Si Joko felt so guilty as he could not help his friend. He wanted to go with Si Juki, but he felt so weak. He could not stand anymore. He just lay in the cave.
Day after day, Si Joko became worst.
“My dear, I think the time has come for me to leave you forever,” said Si Joko sadly.
“Please, don’t say like that. You will get better after this. You can’t leave me alone. I just have you in this world,” cried Si Juki.
A few days later, Si Joko breathed for the last time. He went to see his creator and live Si Juki alone. Si Juki felt so sad and she just sat near the dead body. She did not eat until she also died near Si Joko.
This incident happened in Perak and people called the place as “Setiakawan” or “True friends”.
