Folk Tales can be described as a story handed down by oral tradition from mouth to ear among people. It also called folk story or folklore. According to the  Cambridge Advance Learner’s Dictionary, folk tale means a story that parents have passed on to their children through speech over many years.

There are a lot of Malaysian Folk Tales such as The Tale of Sungai Pinggan, Mat Jenin, The Ugly Rooster, Cik Siti Wan Kemboja, The Legend of Mahsuri and Lombong Menanti. Usually the authors for those stories are usually unknown; in the rare cases where an individual who shaped the current version has been identified.
